Release v0.11.0 “Schibegütsch”
Released on May 14, 2024.
For the first time, this release includes packages for OpenWRT.
Other than this, this release consists mostly of maintenance updates, small usability improvements and also various bug fixes.
Notably, two packet processing bugs that were fixed in this release of the SCION router were found by the Verified SCION project. This is an ongoing effort to formally verify that the SCION code base faithfully implements the formal protocol specifications.
Progress on dispatcher-less end host stack
After v0.11.0 was released, we merged a substantial change on the machinery by which packets are delivered to SCION applications. The goal of this work is to make it easier to build SCION-native applications for a variety of platforms, in particular for mobile devices, where we cannot rely on a central SCION “dispatcher” service or operating system support. This had been maturing over a long period of time; Jordi Subira Nieto’s epic pull request was merged exactly one year after it was opened.
Crafted collaboratively during the IETF 118 hackathon, we’ve published a new tutorial for setting up a small, standalone SCION network. Bridging the gap between development-oriented test networks and the global SCIONLab testbed, this guide ensures a smooth onboarding experience for enthusiasts and developers alike.
