Release of SCION v0.10.0 “Stäfeliflue” – a significant step forward in our open-source journey!
With this release, we now include debian software packages for the SCION services and tools for multiple target platforms (x86-64, arm64, x86-32 and arm). These packages simplify installing and operating the open-source SCION implementation. For now, Debian and its derivatives are supported, but we’re also working on adding other package formats and platforms, specifically OpenWRT and NixOS (and deployment as containers, with docker or podman, also remains an option).
Keeping performance in mind, we’ve added benchmark tests for the router to track the packet forwarding performance.
These tests, integrated into our CI pipeline, ensure robust packet forwarding and promptly catch any unexpected performance regressions. Ongoing efforts involve expanding these tests to a physical testbed for even more realistic and reliable performance data. The performance data gathered will be instrumental in fine-tuning the open-source SCION router, enhancing its efficiency and reliability. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue this optimization journey!

Crafted collaboratively during the IETF 118 hackathon, we’ve published a new tutorial for setting up a small, standalone SCION network. Bridging the gap between development-oriented test networks and the global SCIONLab testbed, this guide ensures a smooth onboarding experience for enthusiasts and developers alike.
