SCION routing does not require specialized hardware, therefore it runs on commercial off-the shelf hardware or in virtualized platforms.
What are the benefits for an ISP to deploy SCION?

Does SCION offer any benefits if some links connecting deploying ISPs are over the traditional Internet?
Although it is most beneficial if traffic traverses all networks that are all SCION-enabled, SCION features can still be beneficial depending on deployment density and network topologies.
Why ISPs should let their clients control their communication paths?
On the SCION Internet, ISPs control which paths they offer to their clients and the amount of bandwidth for a given link. They can also automatically direct traffic along specific paths, including those with more bandwidth.
SCION's Path Control Blocks (PCBs) reveal information about how ASes are willing to route traffic (or some fraction of that information since only a subset of all paths are shared at a given time). Are ASes willing to share such information?
SCION ASes can decide which links they want to announce to which downstream customers based on their PCB propagation policies. Whilst SCION does provide more information about the connectivity of an AS than BGP is exposing, nothing about the AS’s internal connectivity is revealed. However, analysis of BGP messages over a period of time will reveal how an AS is connected to its neighbors.
